Online Gifted Endorsement Courses Offered in May

Nature and Needs of Students Who are Gifted: May 10 - June 30

button Offered through UNF's WOGI project, Nature and Need of Gifted Students provides an overview of the evolution of gifted education on the national, state and local level. Major events affecting gifted education are described as well as major policies. Any teacher in the state of Florida and anyone interested in educating gifted learners is welcome to participate. Theory and Development of Creativity: May 10 - June 30

button This course provides an overview of the theory, research, practical strategies and resources on creativity, with an emphasis on classroom application in the gifted classroom. Any teacher in the state of Florida and anyone interested in educating gifted learners is welcome to participate. Plan Now to Attend the 2010 WOGI Institute - June 10-11, 2010

bullet Dr. Mary SladeThe 2010 WOGI Institute will be held at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine on June 10 & 11, 2010. At this year's Institute, Dr. Mary Slade will present "Best Practices in Gifted Education" Dr. Slade is a Professor in the Department of Exceptional Education in the College of Education at James Madison University. Dr. Slade received her B.S. in Elementary Education with an emphasis in secondary English from Longwood College, and her Master’s and Doctorate from the University of Virginia. She directs the gifted education coursework and the Pre-K-12 Add-On Gifted Education Endorsement Program at JMU, including the online coursework in this area. Dr. Slade is co-author of a staff development book in gifted education and co-editor of Aiming for Excellence: The NAGC Pre-K-12 Gifted Program Standards both published collaboratively by Prufrock Press and NAGC.

Registration and Hotel Information Available for Workshop for Teachers of Gifted - June 12, 2010

bullet Plan now for the Workshop for Teachers of the Gifted to be held in St. Augustine on June 12, 2010 at Pacetti Bay Middle School.  The focus will be on sharing information for teachers of the gifted, particularly those new to the field. Author Jodi O’Meara will be keynote speaker. Jodi is the ESE Curriculum Specialist and Gifted Endorsement Instructor in Manatee County and has presented at state, national and international conferences.
