in
St. Augustine, Florida

Keynote Speaker at Annual WOGI Institute 2008

Our guest speaker, Mary Ann Clark, will offer strategies for the infusion of Depth and Complexity utilizing the Curriculum Frameworks.  Also, Dr. Ben Graffam and Manny Klimis will provide training on the new Frameworks/EP Document CD and several coordinators will share information on their screening pilots relating to disproportionality in their gifted programs. Dr. Susan Johnsen will provide an update on identifying underrepresented populations. Additionally, one representative from each attending district will receive a copy of the newly revised Special Pops Endorsement Module.  If possible, please bring your copy of the frameworks and a laptop to the Institute.

Mary Ann is an administrator for gifted programs in the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD), El Paso, Texas.  She consults nationally and has presented at numerous local, regional, state, national, and international conferences. Mary Ann is married and is the mother of three gifted children.

Some of her recent presentations include three National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) conferences, as well as numerous presentations at the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) Conferences and the 2005 World Gifted Conference in New Orleans.  She is the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Curriculum award from NAGC.  Mary Ann is currently president of the West Texas Association for the Gifted.  She was selected as a TAGT Conference Scholar and is currently a regional winner of the Gifted Advocate of the Year award for TAGT.

Mary Ann is well published and has served on a writing team for Dr. Sandra Kaplan.  Under her direction, the EPISD gifted curriculum for fourth through eighth grade has been completely rewritten to embrace depth, complexity and the Parallel Curriculum Model. The sixth grade Humanities curriculum has been published to retail nationally.

As a national consultant, she provides training on curriculum development to address rigor of instruction.  The focus of her presentation for the 2008 WOGI Institute will be on strategies to merge depth and complexity from the Florida K-12 Gifted Curriculum Frameworks to support rigor of instruction for students who are gifted.  The training will be structured as a Trainer of Trainer (TOT) model.
