Summer 2008 Online Nature and Needs

The Working on Gifted Issues project (WOGI) and Broward County’s Virtual University will again offer Nature and Needs for the online summer session. Enrollment in this course is open to all Florida teachers. The cost to each participant is a registration fee of $240.

This is a ten (10) week course. The course begins May 19, 2008. Registration ends midnight May 5, 2008.   However, if a person misses the deadline they can email Bethany Fee, bethany.fee@browardschools.com  and she will assist with late registration.

     To register:

  • Go to https://broward.gosignmeup.com.

  • Go to My Account to create an account.

  • Click on State Gifted (Non-Broward).

  • Gifted and then Nature and Needs of Students Who Are Gifted.

The text required for the course, Growing Up Gifted by Barbara Clark, costs $100.  Rather than buy the book, a teacher has a couple of options:
1.) WOGI purchased one copy for each district gifted coordinator.  A teacher could request to borrow that book from their district coordinator.
2.) DOE purchased 25 copies to be offered to participants through a check out system that is free of charge and managed by Karen Hairston, WOGI Project Director.  If interested, contact Karen Hairston as soon as possible since these books will be loaned on a first come/first serve basis.

If a teacher desires to borrow a book there is a $6 postage and handling fee and the teacher is required to send an additional deposit check made out to UNF Bookstore for $100 to cover the cost of replacement in case of loss or damage to the book. The deposit check will be held until the book is returned in good condition at the end of the course.  Once the book is returned, the $100 deposit check will be shredded or mailed back to the participant.

All book loan inquiries should be directed to Karen Hairston at kkarston@aol.com
