Teachers
One of the keys to effective service for students who are gifted is the
role of the teacher. Florida is one of the few states with specific
requirements for educators who work with students who have met gifted
eligibility requirements. WOGI
strives to provide the most up-to-date information and resources for
teachers who work with gifted students.
The WOGI
project provides support for teachers who work with gifted learners.
Florida is one of the few states with specific requirements for
endorsement (State Rule 6A-6.4.01791 at
https://www.flrules.org/gateway/ruleNo.asp?ID=6A-4.01791) beyond the
appropriate certification for educators who work with students who have
met eligibility requirements.
WOGI provides support for teachers
of the gifted by:
- Providing the most current information and resources
- Hosting an annual Gifted Teacher Workshop for teachers to provide professional development opportunities and share effective practices
- Regular updates to the five required endorsement courses
- Offering the five required endorsement courses as an online option
- Including a teacher of gifted students on the project’s advisory
- Providing materials and information related to current issues in the field
- Providing regular updates to assist in implementation of the Florida Frameworks for K-12 Gifted Learners Providing an extensive list of links to Resources related to teaching gifted learners and gifted issues
